Road construction projects pose a perfect opportunity for fuel theft. Work is often performed along long stretches of highway or remote areas where supervision is limited. Equipment like graders, pavers, and trucks are left on-site for convenience, and bulk fuel tanks are frequently positioned nearby for refueling.
Unfortunately, these conditions create easy targets. Thieves (both external and internal) can siphon fuel directly from equipment or tanks, often under the cover of darkness. Even small, repeated losses can add up quickly, and without accurate tracking in place, many companies never realize the scale of the problem.
Internal misuse is also common. Without proper oversight, employees may fuel personal vehicles or equipment not related to the project. Manual logbooks make these incidents difficult to detect, especially when teams are moving between job sites.
